I think Charmin’ is pulling a fast one. While I’ve watched both friends and family walk in to Costco hoping for even a sheet of 2-ply and coming out defeated, not even once have I seen anyone admit to hoarding butt wipes. In fact, I feel like everyone on here is on team #stophoardingshit. Does anybody know anyone who specifically walked into Costco in March and walked out with a pallet of “Bath Tissue”? In any event, after 2 visits, I’ve learned to either use leaves, or get to Costco before 11am.
On the COVID front, we continue to watch overall growth rate fall. As some states work to lock down the problem, we’re now looking at a growth of 15.32% per day. I feel like this is going to work like a fire, with things moving out from the New York epicenter. Rhode Island, all 8 square miles of it, comes out the big winner in the last day with almost 17% growth.
I keep seeing people say to stop being a pessimist and focus on survival rate. So fine. Our survival rate has continued to shrink by more than 2% in the last week. According to the CDC, COVID-19 survival rate is 96.4%, compared to the flu’s 99.999%. This means that if you picked 28 of your closest friends to have Coronavirus with, you’d only have to choose 1 to die. If this were the flu, you’d have to pick 10,000 friends before killing one off. FYI, if everyone in the country got infected with COVID-19, more than 10 million wouldn’t survive at this survival rate. Nice game, great job everybody.
I’m sticking with the target 100k-240k deaths for now, and that date actually moved back to April 24th and forward, thanks to our lower growth of infections. If we are indeed only looking at 60k deaths, we’ll hit that just as the sun rises on April 19th.
I hope everyone splurges this weekend. Go for it. Use the guest bathroom. Comment for a fun Elliot fact and see you Monday!
